AREA YOUTH FIND LEADERSHIP VOICES AT MONTANA YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY

Cadet Sierra Stahl of Shepherd distinguished herself by being selected to serve in the Cadet leadership position of Platoon Sergeant and made her mark early in the 22 week Residential Phase by receiving the Cadet of the Month Award for the February. She was also elected by her peers to serve in a student government position within the Jobs for Montana’s Graduates (JMG) Chapter located at Youth Challenge. While at Youth Challenge, Stahl attained Senior Cadet (the highest phase a Cadet can earn) and also earned her way onto the travelling Color Guard Team which presents the colors at numerous functions and sporting events across Montana during each class. Prior to graduation, she completed the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course which included two weeks of textbook work combined with hands-on experience at a local rehabilitation center that MYCA has partnered with. Sierra further distinguished herself on graduation day by reading her winning speech along with another Cadet with whom she tied for first place. By the time the graduation ceremony culminated, Cadet Stahl had received numerous other awards such as JMG Officer Award, JMG Public Speaking Award, National Physical Fitness Award and the Commandant’s Award. Cadet Stahl plans to return to high school in the fall. Her volunteer Mentors are Kelli Friede and Whip Shafer who will assist her during the next 12 months of the Post Residential Phase by maintaining contact and providing additional guidance and support.
